Job description:

JD Smith is currently recruiting a Warehouse Lead Hand for our facility in Vaughan (Dufferin & 407 area). The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm.

The Lead Hand acts as an assistant and back-up to the Shift Supervisor. In the absence of a Supervisor, the Lead Hand assists in running the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, including holding staff accountable to standards and work processes and communicating effectively to ensure the workload is organized and completed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the supervision of employees
  • Ensure daily departmental workload is completed
  • Arrange/Confirm Carriers
  • Pick, Audit, Wrap and Ship orders as required
  • Strive to improve efficiencies
  • Ensure company policies are adhered to and maintained
  • Participate in departmental operations and planning meetings
  • Liaise with customers as required
  • Compile productivity measurements
  • General maintenance

SUMMARY OF WORK ENVIRONMENT AND WORK PERFORMED:

  • Receiving/Put-Away: Unload inbound shipments safely and move products to storage locations. Efficiently stack and store the merchandise in the appropriate location.
  • Order Picking: Pull and prepare product for shipment ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped. Perform picking, RF scanning and packing duties in addition to entering shipment details in a courier shipping system.
  • Loading: Efficiently move products from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
  • Equipment: Load, unload, move, stack and stage product and materials using a forklift, man-up order picker, clamp truck, or other power equipment. Maintain the facility’s equipment and material in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. On a daily basis inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Inventory: Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained. Assist in physical inventories. Ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Safety, Sanitation & Security: Maintain a clean, neat, and organized work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner promoting safety.
  • Maintenance: Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer literate including Microsoft suite
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Experience supervising &/or training employees is an asset
  • Sense of urgency; strong problem-solving skills
  • First Aid certificate or willingness to complete the training
  • Must have a Forklift certificate of training
  • Highly dependable with superior attendance record
  • Flexibility regarding hours of work including shift and weekends
